Plant load including harvestable fruits

Updated over a month ago

Tomato

Description

Average number of set fruits, breaker stage fruits and harvestable fruits per m² excluding set fruits that have been marked as poor set fruits.

Formula

On the measurement date the set of stems is determined which were changed in the app. For each of these stems per truss the number of elements with status "set fruit" , "breaker stage fruit" or "harvestable fruit" is determined and multiplied by the truss density for that truss. We exclude set fruits that have been marked as poor set fruits. Next, per truss number for all stems which were changed, an average is calculated. Lastly, the average values per truss number are summed.

Rationale for use

Including harvestable fruits makes plant load a practical indicator of total fruit carried and near-term harvest volume. Even if their energy demand is lower, leaving harvestable fruits on the plant still affects truss occupancy, weight and harvest backlog, which are key inputs for planning harvest and maintaining crop balance.
