How we use Solcast data to calculate predictions

Updated over 8 months ago

Your greenhouse yield is significantly impacted by weather. We use Solcast weather forecasts to provide reliable radiation data. Solcast offers historical weather data and 14-day forecasts within a 2x2 km grid. For details, visit solcast.com.

How it Works:

We distinguish between weather forecasts and climate estimations, as high quality weather forecast is not available for more than 2 weeks out.

  • Climate Estimation:

    • We use 10 years of historical radiation data from Solcast.

    • We calculate the 10-year average.

  • Weather Forecast:

    • We use Solcast's 14-day weather predictions.

  • Sensor Correction ("De-biasing"):

    • If your facility provides sufficient historical sensor data, we adjust the Solcast data to align with your sensors.

    • This correction assumes your sensor data is the most accurate.

Using Data in Harvest Forecast:

  • 0-14 Days: We use Solcast weather forecasts.

  • Beyond 14 Days: We use climate estimations.

  • 24-Hour Temperature: We calculate the expected 24-hour temperature using your defined strategy and the expected radiation input.

  • Harvest Expectations: Both the expected radiation and 24-hour temperature are inputs for our Cultivate Simulation engine. Result expected harvest can be found in the Harvest Expectations.
